GothRider's Guide to Motorcycle Movies
This weekend seems like a great weekend to stay in and watch movies. For all our GothRider bikers out there, we have compiled a list of great motorcycle-themed movies. From classics to comedies, check out our first edition of Guide to Motorcycle Movies!
World?s Fastest Indian (2005)
Any movie with Anthony Hopkins is a great movie in our book. Released in 2006, World?s Fastest Indian is the true story of New Zealander Burt Munro. Munro spends years improving his 1920 Indian to the chagrin of his neighbors.
Off to pursue his dream of racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, he sells everything and heads with his bike to Los Angeles in 1967. He has many adventures and meets many interesting characters along the way. Finally, he races at Bonneville and sets a new land speed record.
On Any Sunday (1971)
This classic biker documentary features our favorite classic biker, Steve McQueen! Director Bruce Brown received an Academy Award nomination in 1972.
Brown highlights the different cultures of various types of motorcycle racing. He shows early 1970s motocross, desert racing, and Grand National racing. Many famous classic racers are featured.
The Wild Angels (1966)
The Wild Angels is a classic Sixties? counterculture film. Starring Peter Fonda as a Hells? Angels leader, the movie features plenty of motorcycles, violence, and drugs.
Fonda and his pal go on a quest to retrieve a stolen bike. His friend, Loser, is shot, so the gang must bust him out of the hospital. He dies, and the film ends with Loser?s funeral? a wild party. It has not gone down in Hollywood history as a great film, but it highlights the rebel attitude of the 1960s youth.
Wild Hogs (2007)
If you?re more in the mood for a slapstick comedy this weekend, don?t forget about Tim Allen and John Travolta?s cheesy mid-life crisis movie. It?s great for laughs, but it?s no masterpiece.
Four middle-aged suburban men road trip on their bikes to California. They pretend to be a motorcycle gang called the Wild Hogs. When they meet up with a real biker gang, hilarity ensues.
Motorcycle Diaries (2004)
No motorcycle movie list would be complete without Motorcycle Diaries. The movie chronicles the youthful adventures of Marxist leader Che Guevara? before he was the famous revolutionary.
In 1952, Guevara and his friend take an epic road trip through South America. Through their experiences, Guevara becomes the anti-authority, politically-minded man he is known as in history. Whatever your beliefs, the movie is a great coming-of-age drama about a young man and his bike.
